Goldfields Greenlit for $100m Town Centre

Goldfields’ $100-million commercial development in a growth hotspot to Melbourne’s west has been greenlit.

The City of Wyndham has approved the 4.7ha development dubbed The Sheds Tarneit, which will be anchored by a full-line 3473sqm Coles supermarket with a Liquorland store and fast-food retailer McDonald’s.

The 13,100sq m town centre is due to open later next year and will feature a “diverse range of speciality food stores, hospitality venues, a childcare centre, medical facility and fuel station,” according to the developer

The layout and landscaping of The Sheds Tarneit site has been designed by i2C Architects to “reflect the agricultural heritage of the local area”.

Construction is due to begin in the middle of this year.

“Melbourne’s western corridor is one of the fastest-growing regions in Australia and the population of the City of Wyndham is expected to expand to 423,000 by 2033,” Goldfields chief executive Lachlan Thompson said.

Wyndham is one of the largest municipalities in Australia, with an estimated population of 316,048 in 2022.

By 2041, this is expected to grow to 512,591 people—a 62.19 per cent increase, according to the council.

The City of Wyndham includes large areas of land designated for residential housing.

Interest in the region is ramping up, with The Urban Developer reporting on two residential projects proposed recently.

Prolific Victorian-based developer Goldfields has a diverse range of projects under way and in the pipeline, including a build-to-rent proposal in Windsor,  Goldfields House in South Yarra and an approved residential project in Milton, a riverside inner suburb of Brisbane.
