Golden Age Group’s SKY SQR project and its build-to-rent partner Local’s two towers above it are done.
Builder Icon was appointed in May of 2024 to construct the three-storey podium of SKY SQR as well as the dual 17-storey build-to-rent towers above it for Local: Box Hill.
The site at 517-521 Station Street is 500m from Box Hill Station. The development was designed by architects FK while Hong Kong-based firm Oval Partnership provided retail planning.
Local: Box Hill comprises 425 apartments, an 80-seat co-working space, private dining rooms, a 25m pool, wellness studios and pet-friendly areas.
SKY SQR is expected to be fitted out and completed this year.
Golden Age Group chief investment officer Bing Chen said more than half the retail podium’s 12,000sq m had been secured.
He said food and beverage outlets, essential services such as major banks, leading pharmacies, modern grocery stores, health and wellness facilities, and beauty salons were among tenants.
“This line-up ensures convenience for all nearby residents,” Chen said.
International childcare operator Kinderland Early Learning will make its Australian debut at SKY SQR, signing a 15-year lease.
Box Hill Station will be a part of the Suburban Rail Loop, improving travel across the city.
Golden Age’s other projects at Box Hill include Sky One, hailed as the tallest residential building outside Melbourne’s CBD, and Wembley Hill Townhomes at Box Hill South.
It also has approval for a strata office project at 69 Carrington Street at Box Hill and Floret Townhomes at Glen Waverley.
Within the CBD, the developer is working on re-engaging subcontractors to complete 130LC, its CBD tower project left unfinished when Roberts Co Vic collapsed this year.
Local’s build-to-rent platform is underpinned by a fund managed by Macquarie Asset Management Real Estate.
The platform was founded in 2021 by Dan McLennan and Matt Berg.
