United Cinemas Australia has won development approval for its plan to build twin apartment towers at the historic Eldorado Cinemas site at Indooroopilly, according to The Courier-Mail.
The existing Eldorado cinemas, which date back to 1926, will be demolished and replaced with 10 new indoor cinemas as part of the development which features two towers of 20 and 17 storeys.
The completed development will also include an outdoor cinema, indoor bowling alley, amusement area, restaurants, cafes, and tavern located on the corner of Coonan St and Station Rd.
The approval of the project follows two and a half years of negotiations with Brisbane City Council over its height and other characteristics.
Eldorado Village will include 393 residential apartments in total.
United Cinemas Australia director Sam Mustaca told The Courier-Mail the mix of entertainment and living was “a major achievement for the people of Brisbane”.
“The residential towers are secondary to what’s happening here,” he said.
Mr Mustaca told The Courier-Mail he expected to take the apartments and commercial space to the market in mid-2016 with construction to begin in the second half of the year.
