Eco Retreat Brings Welcome New Offering to Rottnest Island

9e0ec61f-5ee5-4609-8dbc-ba04c9680ee5

Construction has begun on Western Australia’s Rottnest Island on what will be the first new tourist accommodation on the island in more than 30 years.

The luxury Pinky eco village will have 83 eco-tents with ensuite pods, connected via elevated walkways through the dunes to the Pinky's Beach Club complex complete with swimming pool, alfresco bar and licensed dining areas.

Work on the $20 million joint venture, between Baileys Group and Discovery Parks, is under way after the partners completed an intensive application process to ensure the development will preserve the area's environmental integrity.

“We see the project as having significant appeal for those who want to connect with Rottnest Island’s pristine environment in safety and comfort,” said Discovery Parks chief executive Grant Wilckens.

Set in the dunes of Pinky Beach, Discovery Eco Village Rottnest Island will offer guests the chance to experience the island's spectacular natural environment in low-impact, high-quality eco-tent accommodation.

First guests are expected by the end of 2018.

"Whether it is premium eco-tent accommodations or the exclusivity of a day spa or golf in glorious surrounds, we are bringing more variety to Rottnest,” West Australia’s Tourism Minister Paul Papalia said.

"The island is changing, and with each new offering creating jobs and opportunities, we are ensuring Rottnest Island remains a world-class, must-visit tourism destination."

It comes as Karma is set to bring an additional touch of luxury when it opens a world-class day spa experience at Karma Lodge on Rottnest Island in the coming months.

Headquartered in Adelaide, and majority-owned by Sunsuper, Discovery Parks is the largest owner and operator of lifestyle parks in Australia.

Baileys Group is shareholder in Experience Australia Group, which owns Rottnest Express along with The Ghan and The Indian Pacific and the Whitsundays’ biggest tourism operator, Cruise Whitsunday.

Baileys has acquired the newly-branded Thomsons Rottnest (formerly Aristos Restaurant) on Rottnest Island which has undergone a refurbishment with a fresh look feel and family friendly offering.
