Billionaire Files 44-Storey Gold Coast Highrise Plans

Australia’s so-called “richest garbo” Ian Malouf is behind plans filed for a residential tower rising 44 storeys on the Gold Coast skyline, binning a previously approved twin tower proposal for the Mermaid Beach site.
The newly lodged scheme comes almost four years after the Sydney-based billionaire swooped on the stalled project’s amalgamated 3783sq m holding at 2605 Gold Coast Highway in a $23.76 million deal.
It was offloaded by China-backed Hubei United Investment Group, which paid $34.1 million for the former Hungry Jack’s site in 2016 and was given the green light for Elegance—a dual-tower development comprising 536 apartments that never got out of the ground.
