Industry Mourns Allam Property Group Founder

Barney Allam EDM

Allam Property Group founder and managing director Barney Allam OAM has died.

Mr Allam was the driving force behind Allam Property Group, which he founded in 1991.

In a statement, the group said the company “was built on the values of consistency, honesty, simplicity and dependability, with Mr Allam’s vision for the business driven by his strong belief that buying a home should be a happy, easy and above all positive experience”.

Within 10 years, Allam Property Group was named one of the top five builders in Sydney, “and under Mr Allam’s leadership and guidance, the company has continued to grow, supporting the careers of hundreds of employees, securing more than $3 billion in sales and delivering over 40 master-planned communities across New South Wales and Victoria.”

Arriving in Australia from Pakistan when he was four years old, Mr Allam spent his younger years in Piliga in regional NSW where his grandfather Nabob Allam ran the town’s general store.

“In 1972 Mr Allam moved with his family to Penrith in Western Sydney, where his passion for the Penrith Panthers began in earnest, a passion that continues to this day through Allam Property Group’s sponsorship of the club,” the company said.

Mr Allam was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2004 in recognition of his service to the community, in particular through the Wesley Mission, and his contribution to the residential building sector.

Allam Property Group chief executive Paul Sant said Mr Allam “was not only a great leader, he was a mentor and friend to many”.

“He was always focused on realising opportunities—whether that be supporting our team to reach their career goals, supporting people to achieve their property dreams, or supporting local communities, in particular in his beloved Western Sydney,” Sant said.

“Barney will be dearly missed by all of us at Allam Property Group, but his legacy will continue to inspire and guide our business as we build our future.

“He was a great man, a visionary business leader, and a good friend. Our condolences go out to Barney’s family.”

The industry has echoed Sant’s comments with a flood of condolence messages on the firm’s LinkedIn post.

Masterton Homes general manager Amir Awad said Mr Allam was “an incredible man, who was an inspiration to all that knew him”.

Modscape project director Mark Conroy said Allam had sold him his first block of land in the early 1980s and later built his first family home.

“A wonderful man and family that made great memories and quality homes ... leaving memories for so many people over the years,” Conroy said.

INVOKE Property managing director Rick Alloggia said Mr Allam left behind “a proud legacy” and had been a “friend to all (who) will not be forgotten”, while builder Brian Skinner said Mr Allam had been a champion of the building industry.

Ehsan Hazrati, senior procurement category manager at the Mirvac Group said Mr Allam was “a great man who will be missed in our industry”.

Mr Allam passed away on Sunday August 4 after a brief illness. He is survived by his four children and four grandchildren.
