ABB Brings Smart Home’s Together

5f9b07e7-3c67-4d26-b78a-a809307ff429

The uptake of smart home technology has sharply risen in recent years thanks to several factors.

The changing expectations we have for our homes; our needs for connectivity for work, leisure and convenience; increasing affordability; and more sophisticated systems have all contributed to this rise.

In fact, it can be argued that the inclusion of such technology in homes—be they apartments or houses, and either build-to-sell, build-to-rent or owner-occupier—is becoming as standard as any other service.

Bringing together functions and facilities including security, intercom, climate control, audio-visual, lighting, appliances, and even window coverings and operations under a single system is becoming the standard.

A global leader in the sector, ABB works with clients on projects of all sizes and purposes to create solutions for smarter buildings.

It’s ABB-free@home solution combines all the useful functions of comfortable home automation in an easy-to-understand operating system via a wall panel, laptop or smartphone.

▲ The uptake of smart home technology has sharply risen in recent years.

Because it unites all a dwelling’s smart devices and facilities, installation is simplified, reducing cost and effort.

The initial configuration of the system by an electrician is carried out via an app so commissioning is fast and streamlined.

For end users, one program to control all functions brings convenience and a rapid understanding of how the system works across all functions.

The system’s app has been developed specially for ABB-free@home and can be used on smartphones and tablets with conventional operating systems iOS and Android.

No additional software is required, and configuration and operation of ABB-free@home is as easy as surfing on the internet.

The settings and adjustments can be made easily while global access to the ABB-free@home system is easy via the MyBuildings portal.

This allows users to control and see the status of the home no matter where they are in the world, be it turning on lights and climate control before returning home or checking on the security system status from overseas.

The ABB-free@home systems also offers a range of wireless devices that provide the same level of functionality as wired ones without the necessity of connecting a bus cable because the communication takes place via radio frequency.

Be it an existing home or new build, the system’s commissioning of all components is conducted through the same interfaces—either via an ordinary web browser or the ABB-free@home app.

But there is another level to the smart home beyond convenience—energy efficiency delivering a reduced carbon footprint.

Due to its levels of monitoring and control of operations, ABB-free@home systems create the most efficient use of power, and can manage such aspects as passive cooling and heating (including window coverings and ventilation).

Automation brings efficiency and this is true for the smart home. Of course, such efficiencies also mean savings of money.

The inclusion of smart home tech in buildings, whatever their role, increases their usability and attractiveness to end users as buyers or tenants.

ABB can deliver the complete smart home solution to any project, bringing its global experience and long history to projects.

As the way we interact with our buildings evolves, a partner in this sector will become more crucial. ABB is just such a partner.
