5 Networking Tips for Urbanity ’17

Urbanity '17 isn’t just about what’s on stage but also getting to know the people sitting next to you.

As part of your conference experience we'll be providing a number of activities for you to get to know the who’s who in the room and meet like-minded people. We guarantee you will be blown away with the calibre of people you'll meet!

We have released the Urbanity '17 program and speaker line-ups -- we've answered your FAQs and provided an overview on who you'll likely meet at the conference. We've even provided you with seven great reasons to attend! Our attendees are 500 of the industry’s most influential leaders and decision-makers from a diverse range of sectors: finance, architecture, development, town planning, technology, government and business services; and that's not factoring in the 60+ speakers who'll be sharing their incredible insights over the two days.

In our endeavour to create the best opportunities for our attendees, we've come up with five networking tips for Urbanity '17 -- ways in which we think you could make the most of your experience, network with new people and open doors to exciting new business prospects!

Ticket registrations are about to close. Be quick to ensure you don’t miss out.

1. Use the Urbanity'17 app to connect to new people

The Urbanity '17 app comes with a range of features that will assist you in navigating your way around the conference. The "delegate messaging" function is our pick as it allows you to search the profiles of fellow delegates and make connections via in-app messaging. You'll also be able to learn more about the inspiring people on stage with in-depth bios and links to their social media channels.

The app will also allow you to share your views on topics via social media and connect with ease to like-minded attendees.
2. Attend the social events on offer and mix with other attendees whilst having a good time

We understand the importance of creating an atmosphere where attendees have the opportunity to mix in a variety of circumstances and learn from an insightful event program. On offer we have a few key social events that are great networking opportunities and sure to be a lot of fun.

Lunch at the plaza

Pull up stumps underneath an umbrella and enjoy some of Brisbane’s finest food trucks whilst sharing your thoughts on the first mornings events.

The property buzz

Wind down at the end of day one with a cool beer and a glass of vino thanks to Hutchinson Builders. Enjoy light refreshments and live music as you recap the highlights from the day and foster new business connections.

The roast lunch

Hosted by Australia’s insanely popular satirical publishers, Clancy Overell and Errol Parker of The Betoota Advocate, the Roast Lunch is your chance to kick back, relax and enjoy the show. With a three-hour food and beverage package to boot, The Roast Lunch will see The Betoota Advocate go head-to-head with the larger than life Bob Katter.

3. Nail your elevator pitch before you attend the conference

With a long list of registered attendees and lots of potential opportunities to network, time is limited when it comes to creating meaningful connections.

Your goal should be to immediately engage someone so that they are intrigued to learn more about you and your business at a later date. Your elevator pitch should be less than one minute long, explain what it is you do in an uncomplicated way and clearly state what you're looking for.
4. Attend the Urbanity '17 workshops and interact with people in more intimate learning environments

The Urbanity '17 workshops are smaller educational offerings that provide an opportunity to discuss ideas in an informal, friendly and supportive atmosphere. The workshops are not only a good place to up-skill but also meet people with similar professional interests.

5. Bring a client and give them an opportunity to broaden their network

Whether it be prospective clients or current clients, purchasing a ticket for them as a gift is a great opportunity to build relationships and open new doors for their business. Take advantage of our group discounts and strengthen your current networks whilst creating new ones.

Proudly brought to life by The Urban Developer, in partnership with Queensland Government and Brisbane Development Association, Urbanity '17 is a two-day conference held at Brisbane’s Royal International Convention Centre 28 – 29 September 2017.

Ticket registrations are open. Be quick to ensure you don’t miss out.
