Watpac wins Daisho deal to build new Brisbane commercial tower

National construction group

Watpac has secured a contract valued in excess of $200 million to build Japanese developer

Daisho’s new '180 Brisbane' office tower in the Brisbane CBD.

The 34-storey office tower is located at 180 Ann Street and will feature 59,100 square metres of A-Grade commercial space, ground floor and podium retail, and basement parking.

It has been designed to achieve a 6 Star Green Star Building Council of Australia standard and an A-Grade Property Council of Australia rating.

Watpac Limited Chief Executive Officer, Martin Monro, said the project was a significant addition to the Group’s national contracting portfolio.

“This project is a great addition to our workbook,” Mr Monro said.

“To win a project of this scale and significance in the competitive Brisbane market is a strong endorsement of Watpac’s skills and experience in delivering major projects in challenging CBD locations.

“Daisho’s investment in design excellence and intelligent workplace integration will create enduring value for future tenants and, to the city in general, a new landmark worthy of its prime location.”

Designed by renowned architects Crone Partners, the striking tower design will feature large floor plates, podium levels and side core configurations to enhance the flexibility of work space configurations.

It will also include a huge artistic imprint of the Brisbane River on its façade, the first of its kind in Brisbane, a ‘green wall’ and a public plaza to integrate the ground plane with the neighbouring 192 Ann Street building.

Early works have recently been completed by Watpac and the main works schedule will commence immediately.

The project is scheduled for completion in July 2015.
