Veriu Hotels & Suites to Convert Sydney’s Wentworth House

Veriu Hotels & Suites has announced a new 110-room hotel located at the gateway to Surry Hills near Sydney’s Central Station to open in November, 2017.

Founder's Alex Thorpe and Rhys Williams launched the bespoke hotel brand in early January – finding a gap in the long-stay hotel market between big-city serviced apartments and Airbnb-style vacation rental platforms.

Veriu Central is a $15 million conversion of the heritage-listed Wentworth House. Located at 75 Wentworth Avenue, Surry Hills, the conversion will retain the eccentric character of the original building.

“One of the foundations of the Veriu brand is to incorporate the unique elements of each building and provide guests with a different experience each time they stay in one of our hotels,” Williams said.

“It’s our point of difference that no hotel is the same – but the core value of creating great spaces to enable guests to explore the local surroundings and feel connected to the city is consistent throughout the network.”

Veriu Central’s multi-venue street level dining precinct will offer five food and beverage options for guests and locals to enjoy, situated in a ‘sweet spot’ between Central Station and the Surry Hills dining strip.

The Veriu group are due to open the $22.5 million Green Square hotel in 2018 as a joint venture with ASX-listed funds manager Folkstone Group. The $18 million Veriu Broadway opened in April with 64 serviced apartments, converted from a former warehouse.
