TUD Awards Winner: Excellence in Commercial Innovation

The fourth annual The Urban Developer Awards, in association with Trilogy Funds, recognises standout property industry performers from across Australasia.

The awards program is delivered digitally, replacing the previously-held black-tie gala dinner with our virtual celebration of content.

Today, we celebrate Excellence in Commercial Innovation, proudly presented by Coposit.

This award recognises commercial innovation that provides an alternate solution to the way that business is conducted—new business models, deal structures, financial products or organisational, corporate and legal structures.

The finalists for Excellence in Commercial Innovation are:

  • Hug Homes Australia
Hug Homes Australia & Merriwa Industries

  • SALLY® by Network Pacific
    Network Pacific

  • Dealt non-bank lending marketplace
    dealt.com.au

  • iPartners
    iPartners

  • DLP Manager
    DLP Manaer

About this project

Hug Homes build modular transportable homes, providing a high-quality, easy to build and assemble solution for those in need of social and affordable housing in a way that does not impact the environment.

As a not-for-profit charity it also invests in skills training for the unemployed, disenfranchised and vulnerable, giving them a pathway into future careers.

Hug Homes partnered with ARUP and Merriwa Industries to develop the Hug Home prototype, source materials and start construction, culminating in four Hug homes being produced every four weeks by two factory sites.

Project details

  • The production of Hug Homes at the factory in Wangaratta has directly provided employment and skills training, as well as providing a circular economy within the local area via the supply of locally-sourced materials and trade.

  • Hug Homes patented engineered timber technology enables its buildings to be assembled in a matter of weeks, consistently, to the highest of standards.

  • Hug Homes has a net zero carbon footprint. Utilising engineered (Glulam) timber, manufactured in-house, the primary structure PFEC-certified.
