The owners of a subtantial site in Melbourne's Essedon have filed plans for a 100-apartment tower.
Joseph Mirgiliano and Anthony Sofo of A J & Partners, who own the 1139sq m site, have lodged plans with the Moonee Valley Council for the 18-storey, five-storey podium tower.
The IN8-designed apartment tower will cover 8228sq m and comprise 27 one-, 52 two-, and 21 three-bedroom apartments plus three basement levels with 72 car parking spaces and 108 bicycle parking spaces.
Level 17 will have two penthouse apartments while the six apartments on Level 5 will have terraces.
There will be two retail spaces with a total of 337sq m of gross floor area.
The estimated cost of the project is $26.07 million, according to BCI data.\
Construction time frames have not been set but architects IN8 and Hansen have been confirmed for the project if it is approved.
The site last exchanged hands for an undisclosed sum in August 2009, according to Corelogic data, and on the corner of Mount Alexander Road and Russell Street.
The site is next to parking for the Essendon Train Station and is on the tram line with access to Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport and the city.
The site is within the Essendon Junction Neighbourhood Activity Centre, which covers an area bounded bu Fletcher Street, Russell Street, Buckley Street, Rose Street and Mount Alexander Road and Napier Street.
It is zoned for commercial use and high-density residential.
There are currently two high-density residential developments in the centre, at 13-21 Russell Street and 23-25 Russell Street.
Essendon has been the site of considerable development in the past two years, with Veriu planning a Punthill hotel in Essendon and CSL Group planning a $1-billion vaccine facility near Melbourne Tullamarine Airport.
