Hotel Among Plans Filed for Wollongong CBD

Anya Solutions is planning a tower with 78 hotel rooms and 68 apartments at 24-30 Kenny Street, Wollongong.

Two mixed-use developments are in the pipeline for end side of Wollongong’s CBD as development activity ramps up south of Sydney.

Plans to build an 18-storey mixed-use tower at the southern end of the CBD have gone on exhibition.

The plans from Anya Solutions are for a tower with 78 hotel rooms and 68 apartments along with a café at 24-30 Kenny Street, Wollongong at a total cost of $33.7 million.

The 2466sq m site currently has older two-storey buildings, a storage shed and carpark, which would all be demolished as part of the project’s build across two lots.

The plans by Design Workshop Australia also included a four-storey podium with a pool and open space on its top, 122 car parking spaces and 31 bicycle spaces.

▲ Both of the proposed developments have gone to the exhibition stage with the Wollongong council.

Meanwhile, a seven-storey shop-top residential development has been proposed for the northern end of the CBD.

The $14.77-million development by Belvedere on Keira would create 43 apartments and ground floor retail across the 1889sq m sloped site at 81-85 Keira Street, Wollongong along with basement parking.

The plans by Adm Architects replace a Domino’s and wellness centre, and were “consistent and compatible with the objectives of the B6 Enterprise Corridor zone”.

In September, television rich-lister Bruce Gordon lodged plans to build a $292-million mixed-use development in the city.

The plans would replace an entire block at the end of Crown Street Mall near the Wollongong Train Station.
