MRB House Scales Back North Melbourne Project

Idle Architecture Studio's initial renders of The Wardien townhouse project by MAB Corp with the original four-storey design.

Michael Buxton’s family office MRB House has filed amendments to plans for a small residential project in North Melbourne.

The amended plans filed with the City of Melbourne seek a reduction from four storeys to three as well as the removal of car stackers and minor changes to the facade of the proposed 10-townhouse project.

Car parking spaces have been reduced from 16 to 8 and bicycle parking provisions have been increased from 4 to 18.

The 519sq m site at 143-149 Abbotsford Street currently has a two-storey warehouse on it.

MRB House wants to demolish the warehouse to make way for the proposed three-storey project designed by Idle Architecture Studio.

The project has been named The Wardien and the site was last listed for sale in 2016 and is thought to have exchanged hands in 2017.

MRB House declined to comment for this story.

Michael Buxton, together with his brother, runs property development firm MAB Corp, best known for their massive residential apartment projects in the Docklands.

They are also known for investing in emerging property development firms.
