Malaysian-owned developer Millieu Group has received planning approval for a residential project in the Perth suburb of Como.
The company is owned by Malaysian-born Siew Lung Wong who is based in Western Australia.
It is not associated with the well-known developer Milieu Group, which is based in Melbourne.
Millieu Group’s plans by Pennock Architects and comprise 13 apartments across five storeys on the 1050.65sq m site at 127 Melville Parade in Como.
Ling Pty Ltd, the site owner, obtained development approval twice for the site—in September, 2018 and January, 2020.
The owners were unable to sell more than one apartment on the site and received feedback that the project needed to be changed to be more affordable.
This included the removal of a planned wine store, cafe, casual lounge and sun terrace, and the decreasing the size of the apartments.
The amendments also included the addition of a co-working space and better separation along the eastern boundary.
The project will have six two and seven three-bedroom apartments, 12 resident car parking spaces in a car stacker system, six additional parking spaces on the ground floor and two visitor car spaces.
The value of the development is listed as $4.2 million.
Initially the recommendation was for the panel to refuse the application as it exceeded density limits. However, that motion was defeated and the panel adjourned the meeting briefly to receive legal advice from the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage.
It then unanimously approved the proposal, subject to specific conditions.
These conditions include the project not being able to proceed under the approval until specific conditions satisfied the City of South Perth’s planning officers.
These included adding end-of-trip facilities and electrical vehicle charging points.
