South-east Queensland developers are welcoming a plan to unlock Brisbane’s ageing inner-city industrial precincts as true mixed-use zones.
The Brisbane City Council unveiled its long-awaited Our Productive City strategy aimed at guiding the evolution of industrial and manufacturing land uses in the city. It identifies more than 260ha of industrial land across the city that could be adapted for flexible high-value, low-impact industrial precincts.
Speaking at a Property Council of Australia launch event, Brisbane Civic Cabinet chair for City Planning and Suburban Renewal Adam Allan said the city was “unashamedly chasing more sophisticated industrial opportunities in the city”.
“This notion that industrial will always be just a big slab with a shed on it is changing rapidly,” Allan says.
