Goldfields Greenlit for $300m Brisbane Office Highrise

Goldfields has been given the go-ahead for a 16-storey city-fringe tower the developer said would set a benchmark for the Brisbane metro office market.

A year after submitting plans for the $300-million, 17,000sq m development, the Brisbane City Council has approved the project at 88 Robertson Street in the James Street precinct.

Designed by Cox Architecture, 88 Robertson is the second mixed-use commercial office project Cox and Goldfields have collaborated on, following the development of Goldfields House on Melbourne’s Chapel Street.

Project partners also include landscape architect Arcadia and town planner PPA, and Aegis has been appointed lead agent.

The tower will also include two levels of wellness-focused tenancies and winter rooms.

Formerly the home of KC Dry Cleaning, Goldfields bought the 2002sq m site from Azure Development Group in August 2024 for $17.1 million. It had previously sold in 2022 for $13.6 million.

The site is 650m from the Valley Metro station, near the Howard Smith Wharves and 2km from the CBD. The project includes a rooftop restaurant with city views.

Inspired by the Beverly Rooftop at Goldfields House in Melbourne, the restaurant will have an event space, retail offerings on the ground floor and a laneway connecting to the wider James Street precinct.

Goldfields said it would be built to a 5-star Green Star and 5.5-star NABERS energy rating, with EV charging stations built in.

Goldfields plans to take up space in the tower as its Queensland headquarters.

The developer said it had already attracted strong interest from prospective tenants as the only A-Grade office building due to rise in inner Brisbane before 2028.

Construction is expected to begin in mid-2026 and completion is forecast for mid-2028.
