Tower plans have been filed for a slender 15-storey “penthouse-only” high-rise within the Gold Coast’s urban infill hotspot of Chevron Island.
The proposal comprises nine whole-floor, three-bedroom apartments sitting above a basement and three-level podium.
It is capped by a two-level communal rooftop terrace with an infinity-edged pool, outdoor kitchen-dining area and a fire pit.
Under the plans, residents also would have exclusive access to private offices and meeting rooms on the fourth level.
Earmarked for a 506sq m infill site, the tower scheme has been submitted on behalf of a Loganlea-based family trust led by Shuying Ding.
Records show the property at 7 Anembo Street, Surfers Paradise, was acquired by Ding 80 Pty Ltd in a $1.35 million deal that was settled in July, 2022.
If approved, the proposed tower would replace a single-storey, three-bedroom home.
Access to 21 carparking spaces across the basement and podium levels is proposed via a car lift.
“The proposal seeks to establish nine penthouse apartments … [that] will provide unique and luxurious residential housing,” a planning report said.
“The development has been designed to create an attractive residential apartment building, providing future residents with a high level of amenity and convenience.”
It deemed the proposal “consistent with the existing contemporary buildings within the area”.
Initial plans for the proposed tower were amended after a pre-lodgement meeting with Gold Coast City Council officers.
The revised building design incorporated the addition of deep recesses within the facade as well as screening and landscaping “to achieve an attractive and interesting composition in order to support a reduced side boundary setback” similar to a neighbouring 18-storey approved apartment development, the report said.
“The development reflects high quality urban design, promoting modern architecture that will assist in rejuvenating the street frontage,” it said.
Meanwhile, upscaled plans have been filed for an approved tower proposal on a nearby 1012sq m site at 18-20 Mawarra Street.
Sydney-based Aurum Capital Group is seeking to add seven storeys to its greenlit Swan on Chevron high-rise project, taking it from 18 storeys to 25 storeys—not including a rooftop terrace.
The reworked plans accommodate an increase in the development’s yield from 50 to 82 apartments.
