Barangaroo Reserve American Architecture Prize's Landscape Design of the Year

Named the "Landscape Design of the Year", Sydney’s Barangaroo Reserve development was awarded the top place for the 2017 American Architecture Prize.

Named for an influential Aboriginal woman of colonial Sydney, Barangaroo is a globally-significant, 22-hectare waterfront renewal project that redefines Sydney Harbour and its Central Business District.

Walking and bicycle pathways separated by the “1836 Wall” symbolically mark the original precolonial shoreline. Barangaroo Reserve is carbon-neutral, water-positive, and committed to creating zero waste.

Selected as a Clinton Global Initiative, One Planet Living, and C40 Climate Positive development, the project recycled all existing materials onsite to form the headland.

Barangaroo was one of nine other Australian-based projects who earned special mentions across the prize’s 41 categories, including the EY Centre by FJMT, the Walumba Elders Centre by Iredale Pedersen Hook Architects and the FFC Marketing Display Centre by Woods Bagot.
