Azzura Doubles Down with $450m Southport Tower Plan

Robert Badalotti’s Azzura Investments has doubled down on Southport’s long-promised revival, launching the second stage of its $3.8-billion Imperial Square precinct.

Monarch Place, a $450-million residential tower, signals the next chapter of the veteran developer’s multi-tower masterplan on the edge of the Gold Coast’s designated CBD.

The planned tower—scaled back from 40 to 30 levels—will deliver 237 one, two and three-bedroom apartments, priced from $825,000, capped by three luxury penthouses.

It will also feature 63 hotel rooms, building on the success of Stage One’s Regal Residences and the adjacent TRYP by Wyndham Southport hotel.

Azzura has tapped architect Frank Raunik to design Monarch Place, which will also feature an ambitious amenity offering across level 6 anchored by a 600sq m lagoon-style pool, flanked by cabanas, wellness zones, sauna and steam rooms, alongside a residents’ bar, ballroom, private cinema, golf simulator and multiple lounge areas.

Monarch Club members will also have access to a 20m luxury cruiser, caravans and a fleet of EVs.

At the street and podium levels, the tower will incorporate 23 premium medical suites, with most already sold, and a 12-tenancy retail strip designed to activate the Meron Street and Ferry Road corner.

Shovels are poised to hit dirt with builder Platform Construction engaged following its successful delivery of Stage One of Imperial Square.

Once complete, Azzura is planning to consolidate the remaining Imperial Square landholdings to progress Majesty—an approved 108-level, 358m tower that, if delivered, would eclipse Q1 to become Australasia’s tallest building.

That is, until the nearby greenlit dual-tower One Park Lane project—rising 101-storeys and 60 storeys—is built, with its tallest tower hitting a peak of 393 metres.

In a statement, Badalotti said Monarch Place was the next stage of Azzura’s  “commitment to shaping Southport’s future and the evolving needs of its growing population”.

“Monarch Place, and Imperial Square more broadly, will create a vibrant, self-sustaining residential and lifestyle precinct unlike anything the Gold Coast has ever seen…[and] will stand as a beacon of innovation and progress.

“Every detail, from the active retail frontage to the secure parking and extensive amenity offering, has been crafted to revitalise Southport and enhance the daily lives of both locals and Monarch Place residents.”
