$200m New Mayfield development receives approval in Adelaide

Property development company Sturt Land Pty Ltd has received government approval for its $240 million transformation of the former Mayfield Electrics factory in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD.

Bordering Sturt, Gilbert, Norman and Myers Streets, the aptly named

New Mayfield will boast 3 separate residential buildings, ranging from 10 to 14 storeys high, with extensive retail and dining space on its ground level.

The 7,377 square metre site takes advantage of the South Australian State Government’s new planning regulations, which now grant blocks of land over 1,500 square metres special exemptions that ensure freedom and creativity in the design process.

Sturt Land Director, David Bertram, believes that New Mayfield is the first step to achieving Adelaide’s impending retail and residential excellence.

“Adelaide is in need of regeneration that transforms the city centre into an attractive and liveable destination; more inner city living is essential in order to unlock Adelaide’s full potential as a vibrant 21st Century city,” said Mr. Bertram.

For this reason, Sturt Land is in collaboration with the State Government and Adelaide City Council to upgrade surrounding streets and public areas, committing to spend over $6 million on planting trees, designated bicycle lanes, wider footpaths, a tramline extension and improved pedestrian access to surrounding parklands.

New Mayfield will also feature:

  • 427 apartments – including one, two and three bedroom residences

  • Underground car parking

  • Rooftop swimming pool

  • Architectural design by the award-winning Adelaide based

  • Landscape design by Oxigen

  • Public meeting spaces and art installations.
