Ex-Multiplex Scion Joins With Construction Giant For New Firm

On Thursday a 50-50 joint venture was announced between Andrew Roberts’ RF Holdings and one of Europe’s leading construction and infrastructure firms, Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.A.

The announcement represents a 50-50 joint venture between Andrew Roberts’ RF Holdings and Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.A and creates Australia’s newest national construction firm, called Roberts Pizzarotti Pty Limited.

In Australia, the Roberts Family name is synonymous with the construction sector. John Roberts founded Multiplex in 1962, growing it into a global tier one firm. The family sold their interest to Brookfield Asset Management in 2007. The partnership will commence operations on the east coast of Australia, focusing initially on building construction before expanding into engineering and infrastructure.

“We have been assessing the opportunity to re-enter the Australian construction market for some time,” said Andrew Roberts, Principal of RF Holdings. “We had to make sure we could confidently deliver the promise that applying my father’s name to this business creates. To me that means enshrining the values and ideals that made the Roberts name synonymous with construction in this country and ultimately a success internationally.

“It means having an uncompromising approach to quality – with our teams, our construction outcomes, and the relationships we foster with our clients.”

This deal marks the first entry into the Australian market for Pizzarotti, which was founded in 1910 in Parma, Italy and now operates in 17 countries.

The Roberts Pizzarotti joint venture brings together a team with unsurpassed local knowledge and the strength of a large scale, international tier one construction and infrastructure firm.

“I am also proud to announce that Alison Mirams will lead this new venture as chief executive officer. Not only does Alison bring more than 20 years’ industry experience, she epitomises the vision and values we believe will underwrite our success,” said Andrew Roberts.

Pizzarotti CEO Alison Mirams was formerly General Manager Building ACT/NSW for Lend Lease, managing a turnover of more than $2billion.

Founded in 1910 and based in Parma, Italy, Pizzarotti is one of Europe’s leading construction and infrastructure firms with more than 3,500 employees and turnover exceeding €1.0 billion. Privately held and with a presence in more than seventeen countries across North America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East, Pizzarotti focuses on large scale construction and infrastructure projects with an emphasis on health, motorways, metro and heavy rail, tunnelling and ports.

The former Multiplex chief executive, together with the other members of its founding Roberts family, his brother Tim and sister Denby, sold out their stake in Multiplex to Canadian giant Brookfield for about $1.2 billion in 2007.

Roberts Pizzarotti is based in Sydney.
