When you can't go out you go up. Slender towers have risen across land-poor cities such as New York and Hong Kong, where land is at an absolute premium. 

And while architects in Sydney and Melbourne have pitched ideas for the bombastic skinny skyscrapers, few have managed to get one over the line.
