How Two Cousins Bought More Than $1 Billion of Sydney Retail

Sydney’s neighbourhood shopping centres are tightly held, but Revelop keeps buying them.
The group has picked up Stanhope Village for $158 million, Balgowlah Village for $155 million and Forestway for $100 million.
In 2026 alone, it has added Kareela Village, Ingleburn Village, Quakers Court and Prospect Central to its portfolio.
Cousins Charbel Hazzouri and Anthony El-Hazouri founded the business in 2008, during the global financial crisis, and today the privately owned group holds more than 100 properties with more than 2000 tenants.
On Tuesday, October 20, they will tell that story at The Urban Developer Retail Leaders Forum in Sydney.
The rise and rise of Revelop
In the forum’s headline session, Hazzouri and El-Hazouri will join The Urban Developer founder and chief executive Adam Di Marco for an in-depth conversation about their journey so far—and what’s coming next.
Expect details about how they identify opportunities and approach acquisitions and repositioning, along with a peek inside the conviction, agility and entrepreneurial mindset of Australia’s most active and ambitious retail developers and owners.
The forces reshaping Australia’s retail property sector
The lunch will open with a keynote from Colliers head of property economics and analytics Gavin Duane, who has spent more than 30 years in market analysis and strategic research and is the founder of Location IQ.
Duane will map the forces driving retail’s new era, from changing consumer behaviour and population growth to mixed-use development and renewed investment confidence, setting up every conversation that follows.
The new retail playbook
From there, the operators take over.
JLL head of retail investments Sam Hatcher has brokered major retail transactions for more than 20 years, with a front-row seat to who is buying, who is selling and at what price.
MA Financial managing director of retail Ramesh Subramanian brings more than 25 years of experience and leads asset management and leasing across the group’s retail portfolio.
Retail Strategy Group founder Angela Bonnefin has delivered more than 100 retail projects globally, shaping the concept, curation and delivery behind high-performing centres.
Together they’ll examine how the best retail assets are becoming more than places to shop, evolving into destinations people visit, experience and return to.
The full forum runs across a single lunch: three sessions in three hours, done by 3pm.
Tickets are strictly limited at $365 + GST, or $295 + GST for TUD+ members.
