The Man Running 1.3 Million Square Metres of Australian Office

Australia’s office market is resetting, and the premium end is pulling away from the pack.
Few people sit closer to that shift than The GPT Group head of office Matthew Brown.
He runs the group’s vertically integrated office platform comprising 1.3 million square metres of owned or managed space, and delivered GPT’s strongest income growth in its latest half-year result.
Brown took the role after leading funds management at ISPT, following senior roles at Charter Hall and Singaporean sovereign wealth fund GIC.
On Thursday 22 October, he headlines The Urban Developer Office Leaders Forum at the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney.
In Conversation | Inside GPT: The Office Advantage
In the forum’s headline session, Brown shares the strategy behind the portfolio, including how GPT identifies and secures the right assets, responds to evolving occupier demand, creates long-term value and where he sees the next opportunities for developers.
The great reset: The state of Australia’s office market
The lunch will open with a keynote from JLL managing director for NSW and head of research for Australasia Andrew Ballantyne, who leads Australasia’s largest property research team.
Ballantyne will map the market’s new phase, from stabilising occupier demand and outperforming premium assets to the recycling of secondary stock, and what it means for owners, developers and investors.
The new office playbook
Then the operators and investors take over.
Investa head of developments Mark Tait leads the delivery of major projects across the office and living sectors.
IFM Investors head of portfolio for office Nicole Ward runs a national office team across investment management, leasing and workplace strategy, with more than 28 years of experience.
Centuria Office REIT fund manager Belinda Cheung manages Australia’s largest ASX-listed domestic pure-play office fund.
Concept head of workplace strategy Ivy Li brings a background in neuroscience and design thinking to workplace transformations across Australia, Asia and Europe.
Together they’ll unpack how developers, investors and designers are balancing commercial performance, tenant experience and long-term resilience in the next generation of office assets.
The full forum runs across a single lunch: three sessions in three hours, all done by 3pm.
Tickets are strictly limited at $365 + GST, or $295 + GST for TUD+ members.
