Australia's Healthiest Suburbs Revealed

How healthy is your suburb? A new study, authored by Deloitte Economics and Tract Consultants in partnership with Domain, has identified 10 indicators that either help or hinder residents from leading a healthy lifestyle.

Analysts determined the "health opportunities of a suburb", by looking at factors such as access to fresh food, health services, open space, transport, walkability, and tree cover.

Based on the scores across these indicators, each suburb was given a rating out of five stars.

Sydney's north shore and eastern suburbs dominated the rankings, with areas like Randwick, Mosman, Hornsby and Roseville scoring high for good tree cover, open space, access to fresh food and walkability metrics.

In Sydney’s inner west and north west standout suburbs included Cabarita, North Epping and Pennant Hills.

In Melbourne, suburbs outside the inner-city, such as Upper Ferntree Gully, Jacana and Eaglemont, also scored five stars.

Suburbs of Melbourne with parks have performed strongly but this is just one of many factors used to determine rankings.

Many suburbs rated highly for their walkability, tree cover and open space.

Brisbane's established suburbs like Graceville, Bardon, Ashgrove and Indooroopilly all achieved five stars, benefiting from great infrastructure and lots of parks and local amenities.
