Accor Begins Queensland Region’s First 5-Star Hotel

Australia’s largest hotel operator Accor, alongside developer partner the Yaralla Sports Club, has broken ground on its Peppers Gladstone project, the region’s first five-star hotel.

Mettle Projects has started construction on the site of the Yaralla Sports Club, the first new hotel development in the region in more than a decade.

Peppers Gladstone will combine a 32-room Peppers Gladstone with a 60-room Mantra Gladstone offering under one roof in what chief executive Sarah Derry described as a vertical dual-branded hotel concept.

“We are thrilled to announce a Peppers hotel at one of Queensland's most captivating central coast towns,” Derry said.

“Peppers Gladstone will offer a ... significant addition to our premium brand portfolio in Queensland.

“Its guest rooms, apartments and amenities will provide an elevated guest experience, particularly appealing to those seeking extra space and comfort for an extended stay.”

The hotel is due to be operational in mid-2024 according to hotel developer Yaralla Sports Club chief executive Will Schroeder.

“Our team is excited to be working collaboratively with Accor to bring to life our five star dream for Central Queensland,” Schroeder said.

“Peppers Gladstone, in conjunction with Mantra Gladstone, will offer two levels of accommodation under one roof, meaning there will be two fantastic options for visitors to enjoy our wonderful city.”

The BSPN Architects-designed hotel will accommodate up to 150 guests close to the CBD and adjoining the Yaralla Sports Club.

Schroeder said guests would be able to stay in five-star accommodation and enjoy the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef and all that the tourist destination had to offer.

It would also feature capacity for conferences and events.

Peppers Gladstone will join a network of more than 20 Peppers retreats, resorts and CBD hotels across Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia.

Since acquiring Peppers in 2018, Accor has continued to grow the brand with four additional Peppers hotels opening across Australia in the past five years, including the Peppers Manly Beach, Peppers Marysville, Peppers The Hills Lodge, and Shadow Play Melbourne by Peppers.
