Origin Energy Announces Costly CBD Move

Origin Energy will move its new headquarters to Japanese billionaire Katsumi Tada’s newly-built office tower in Brisbane, a move set to cost the energy giant at least $130 million, according to an Australian Financial Review report.

Origin will leave its 135 Coronation Drive office building and Blackstone’s 339 Coronation Drive in Brisbane and move to 180 Ann Street where it will occupy 16,000sqm, according to The AFR. The building is located directly opposite Central Station.

According to The AFR, building rents range in the high $700 per square metre on a gross basis.

180 ann street

180 Ann Street was completed in 2015 and was designed by renowned architects Crone Partners. The 34-storey building offers 58,000sqm of A-Grade commercial space as well as a convenient retail precinct, parking, bicycle racks and end of trip facilities.

Featuring exceptional smart technology and environmentally sustainable design features, it is the first commercial building in Brisbane to achieve a 6 Star Green Star Design Rating and 6 Star Green Star As-built Rating by the Building Council of Australia, and is targeting a 5 Star NABERS Energy rating.

Working with a complex inner-city site, Crone Architects overcame “multiple site constraints” to achieve a light, airy commercial building in tune with the modern workplace. By using the liftcore as a structural beam, Crone was able to span the railway easement, allowing a larger floor plate that maxmises tenant flexibility, outlook and natural light. Different glass frits modulate the light on different edges of the building, and give 180 Brisbane by Daisho its distinctive “Brisbane River” facade. A glass canopy protects the new through site-link, activated by retail.

Daisho’s property portfolio includes W Hotel Melbourne, Westin Singapore, Park Hyatt Sydney, AO Building Tokyo and Hilton Kuala Lumpur.
